You’ll support the Technical Shift Leader to coordinate maintenance activity, guide technicians through complex fault finding and improvement work, and help build a safety-first culture that enables reliable delivery for customers across the country.
About the opportunity
As our Technical 2IC (PT06), you’ll report to the Technical Shift Leader and play a key role in coordinating, planning and supporting maintenance activities across multiple sites. You’ll provide technical leadership to optimise automation reliability, availability and performance, and you’ll step into the Shift Leader role when required. You’ll also work closely with Engineering Leads and subject matter experts to resolve complex diagnostic issues, drive performance improvements and ensure maintenance work is completed, recorded and compliant in SAP.
About the facility
As part of the Victorian Technical Services team, you’ll help lead maintenance support across a network of automated facilities, partnering closely with operational leaders to keep processing equipment performing safely and reliably. The technology you’ll work with includes automation systems and conveyors controlled by PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and VFD (Variable Frequency Drive), along with network communications, digital address recognition systems and other modern processing technology.
You’ll be
- Supporting the Technical Shift Leader to coordinate and deploy maintenance work plans across multiple sites
- Stepping into the Shift Leader role when required to ensure continuity of technical support and team leadership
- Providing technical leadership to diagnose and repair complex automation faults, manage escalations and restore equipment performance
- Working with Engineering Leads/SMEs to resolve complex diagnostic problems and deliver performance enhancement and process improvement activities
- Optimising team effort and capability—identifying skill gaps, supporting coaching and knowledge transfer, and strengthening team engagement
- Ensuring maintenance quality and compliance by following up completion and sign-off of allocated work in SAP each shift
- Leading with safety and wellbeing—building safety conversations into daily work and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures
- Acting as a key contact point for operational managers on complex/escalated technical issues in the absence of the Shift Leader
About you
- Qualifications: Certificate IV in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent). Diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) is desirable (or working towards).
- Relevant trade/engineering qualification with proven supervisory experience
- Extensive technical maintenance experience, with a high level of technical knowledge on processing equipment and the ability to diagnose and repair complex system faults
- Proficiency with SAP plant maintenance and materials management modules (and using SAP/reports for maintenance and stores management)
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to build effective relationships in a team-based environment
- Demonstrated commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and supporting compliance with OH&S policies and procedures
- Certificate IV in Business (Frontline Management) and/or Project Management is desirable
