Help us deliver like never before

As our Mail Sorting Officer and Pick-Up/Delivery Driver, you’ll be working from our Mt Isa Delivery Centre where you’ll be responsible for manually sorting mail in preparation for delivery. You’ll play a key role in supporting our Posties, who provide a vital service to our local community every single day.   


You’ll be

  • Working autonomously and in a team to manually sort mail including packages and parcels
  • Sorting and scanning all mail that comes through the Delivery Centre
  • Handling heavy parcels and bags of mail regularly - loading in and out of vehicles and around the facility 
  • Required to use manual pallet jacks and stackers to receive and despatch large volume of mail 
  • Assisting with pick up and delivery duties daily from our StarTrack Depot and the Airport


About you

  • You are flexible with working additional hours if required
  • You are happy working indoors and outdoors in this varied position 
  • You have a great memory, excellent attention to detail and can lift up to 16kgs of Mail and Parcels regularly 
  • Experience operating manual pallet jacks or stackers is advantageous but not mandatory 
  • You have a QLD drivers licence with experience driving an automatic van or larger vehicle 


How we’ll deliver for you

  • This position pays $27.04 per hour for the first 3 months (training/probationary period) then increases to $30.93 per hour. In addition, 15% shift penalties are paid for the full shift on the days commencing before 6am plus a 4% pay rise in September on the previously listed hourly rates

Training and Support

At Australia Post, our training and induction programs offer support to ensure we set you up for success. You will attend an induction in your first week with our Learning and Development Team followed by a site-specific induction at your respective facility and additional online learning modules. As a new employee, you will receive one-on-one coaching, followed by regular check-ins with your Manager and Trainer to track progress, provide feedback, and discuss any support needed. We assess development at the end of each month during your probationary period, with adjustments or additional training as required. The program includes site-specific inductions and hands-on training, building employees up to full delivery capacity within six weeks. Our approach is flexible, ensuring long-term success and continuous growth.
