Help us deliver like never before
Australia Post is delivering like never before. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.
About the opportunity
As a Shift Production Manager, at our Dandenong Letter Centre, you will lead and coordinate the end-to-end operations of your designated shift, ensuring smooth, efficient and safe facility performance. A key member of the site’s senior leadership team, you will play an active role in facility planning, strategy execution and driving continuous improvement across all operational areas.
We are currently recruiting for three positions, an AM Shift Manager, a PM Shift Manager and a Docks Shift Manager. Please consider your preference and indicate it clearly in your cover letter.
In this role, you will be accountable for planning, organising and overseeing all aspects of your specific shift, ensuring service performance standards are consistently met. You’ll manage labour resources in line with service needs and budget expectations, while fostering a safe, high-performing and engaged team environment.
This is an opportunity to influence operational outcomes at a strategic level, contribute to transformational initiatives, and support the ongoing optimisation of a large, complex facility.
What you’ll deliver with us
In this role, you’ll lead high-performance shift operations, ensuring safety, service excellence and operational efficiency while contributing to the facility’s strategic, financial and cultural goals.
You will deliver this through:
- End-to-end management of shift production activities to meet operational targets, including DIFOT, workload planning, capacity assessment and adherence to production plans.
- Data-driven decision making by analysing performance metrics, partnering with Data & Analytics to monitor progress, implement contingency plans and drive continuous improvement.
- Full ownership of shift financial performance, managing labour and budget lines, optimising overtime and delivering improved Cost to Serve outcomes.
- Strong customer, community and service delivery outcomes by ensuring service-committed product meets agreed levels, maintaining quality control programs and championing One Team behaviours.
- Proactive people and safety leadership, including compliance oversight, hazard reduction, safety investigations, injury management and fostering a culture of wellbeing and ‘permission to pause’.
- Effective leadership of your shift team, setting expectations, developing capability, managing performance, resolving issues quickly, maintaining strong industrial relations and driving a positive, accountable team culture.
About you
You’re an experienced operational leader who thrives in fast-paced, complex environments and brings the capability, confidence and influence needed to lead large teams, navigate change and uplift performance. You build strong relationships, make data-driven decisions, resolve issues with confidence and bring a safety-first mindset to every shift. You will bring:
- Proven operational management experience leading large teams in a high-volume production, manufacturing or similar operational environment, including improving performance outcomes and embedding change.
- Strong capability in coaching, mentoring and developing diverse teams, supported by effective relationship building across all levels and stakeholders during times of transformation.
- Experience managing complex industrial relations matters, including union engagement, negotiations and sensitive workplace situations, while maintaining constructive working relationships.
- Sound knowledge of production and operational management techniques, safety leadership principles, KPI-driven performance, and financial management tools.
- Understanding of HR, safety and industrial relations requirements, along with strong communication, presentation and change management skills to influence outcomes and support capability uplift.
