Description & Requirements

Help us deliver like never before

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our diverse, talented and innovative digital design team who together are helping our customers and communities build a better future. Together, we design, build and maintain products, services and experiences that Australian's love and trust, while delivering a sustainable future for Australia Post – and you could be part of that!

We're empowered to deliver for our teams and to delight our customers. We provide an inclusive and supportive environment that nurtures talented people, trusts our teams to deliver their best, and leverages modern work practices and technologies. It's an unexpectedly dynamic and collaborative culture that feels more like a start-up than a 213-year old icon.

What you’ll deliver with us

As our Senior Product Designer, you will support the Lead Product Designer and Design Director by working in a team of product designers within our Centre of Excellence for Research & Design, taking on complex tasks and transforming them into elegant, accessible, hard-working interfaces that millions of people use each day – from the first-time user to the digital native. Working on our products and platforms you will be comfortable with transforming complexity into simple customer products.

Senior Product Designers work closely with Project and Program teams, as well as Platform Producers within relevant portfolios, and will report directly to the Lead Product Designer.

You’ll also

ADVOCATE

  • Advocate for customer centricity at all times and uphold the customer experience as a key deliverable in all work – ensuring the customer is represented when balancing experience (desirable), business (viable), and engineering (feasible) perspectives regardless of project, platform or program.

COLLABORATE

  • Collaborate with project, platform and program teams to deliver great digital experiences – you’ll provide design and digital leadership to the wider business, while driving the experience design within agile projects and programs across the enterprise. You will conceive, design, test and optimise highly accessible experiences, utilising best practice to assist and guide teams towards optimal outcomes while ensuring exceptional design quality.
  • Work with research teams to carry out customer interviews, usability testing, and qualitative or quantitative research to uncover insights and drive validation of concepts, and iteration of designs.

CREATE

  • Lead the creation of design deliverables and artefacts including, but not limited to:  customer journeys, user flows, design mockups, design patterns, and prototypes
  • Creatively communicate insights and solutions to inspire others. Support discovery and research reports, presentations and playbacks
  • Push creativity, challenge established thinking and processes, and discover new ways of approaching (and solving) a problem. Engaging in weekly design critiques, seeking and providing constructive feedback to achieve design excellence and better customer outcomes.

CONTRIBUTE

  • Play a key role with the Research and Design practice.
  • Evolving, contributing and adhering to our Postmaster Design System. Actively collaborate with the senior design team to contribute to our Postmaster Design System, establishing and maintaining global patterns for consumption across all products and platforms.
  • Actively contribute to tribe culture by getting involved and leading weekly team discussions and meetings, presenting work in progress in design critique, and engaging in / running various tribe ceremonies.

You’ll need

DESIGN EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role – with a focus in user experience, product or interaction design and a demonstrable portfolio of work.
  • The successful applicant will have an impressive background, with experience creating digital products, large-scale websites, or applications and a strong understanding of customer centric practices across digital and omnichannel ecosystems. Experience designing digital products within a large organisation or enterprise, including exposure and/or contribution to digital strategies and roadmaps is also essential.
  • Advanced analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills with an ability to understand customer needs, motivations and behaviours and translate them into actionable deliverables.
  • Experience Interrogating quant and qual data as well as sources such as analytics and NPS, CSAT or CES data to derive actionable insights
  • Strong demonstrable knowledge and experience with UX and interface design processes and methodologies, and proficiency with design, collaboration and prototyping tools, design systems and project management applications.

  • ENTERPRISE ACUMEN
  • Demonstrable commercial acumen and the ability to pragmatically understand and navigate the role of a product designer in a large enterprise. Prior experience working with internal or external clients or customers, as well as cross-functional development teams is a must.
  • The ability to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment – you’ll be a self-starter who will bring original ideas and fresh approaches to each project they work on.

MENTORING + CRAFT LEADERSHIP

  • Experience in mentoring others and leading the way in evolving design craft, process and practice within a design tribe in a large corporate or agency. Passion for advocating the design craft and process within an organisation, as a vehicle of change for positive customer and commercial outcomes.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

  • Highly developed communications skills both written and oral, with a strong ability to visualise abstract ideas and concepts, making them simple to understand for both internal and external audiences. The successful applicant will display excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.

DIGITAL BEST PRACTICE

  • Knowledge of front-end and/or native mobile technologies to inform discussions with engineering and architecture peers.
  • Excellent working knowledge of accessibility & WCAG standards.

Our hybrid working arrangement requires minimum 3 days per week collaborating in person in our new custom built campus at 480 Swan Street, Richmond VIC – less than 5 minutes from Burnley station.
