Description & Requirements

Help us deliver like never before

Australia Post is delivering like never before. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and for our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.  As one of Australia’s largest employers, how we manage employee relations genuinely matters.

About the opportunity

A rare and highly sought-after opportunity has opened within our Employee Relations & Case Management team for a Senior Employee Relations Partner with a passion for and experience in employment law within a commercial environment.

This role sits within People & Culture, partnering closely with senior leaders, HR colleagues and Legal to manage complex, high‑risk and sensitive employee relations matters. While legal expertise is critical, this is an ER partnering role – focused on sound judgement, influence and practical outcomes at scale.

In this role, you’ll join a welcoming, collaborative, and high-performing team, working across a broad and dynamic range of matters that truly impact our workforce and business.

NOTE: This role has been advertised in Melbourne VIC, however we welcome applicants from interstate such as QLD and NSW.

What you’ll deliver with us

No two days will look the same. You’ll work across a broad and challenging ER remit, including:

  • Fair Work Commission and other tribunal matters, including advocacy at conciliation conferences
  • Providing complex advice to the business on a range of employment related issues
  • Union engagement and dispute resolution within a highly unionised environment
  • Supporting and occasionally undertaking investigations into alleged bullying, harassment and other misconduct
  • You’ll also have the opportunity to lean into high-impact projects and strategic initiatives, giving you exposure beyond day-to-day advisory work and the chance to shape how we approach employee relations across the business.

You’ll be part of a team that values knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and support, where people genuinely enjoy working together to solve complex challenges. Beyond managing your own matters, you will play a broader leadership role by mentoring and coaching Employee Relations Case Managers, lifting capability, confidence and consistency across the team.

You’ll also:

  • Support initiatives designed to upskill our leaders to effectively manage bullying and harassment
  • Contribute to, cross-functional projects that influence business-wide outcomes
  • Partner with HR and leadership to navigate complex employee matters

About you

You’re a commercially minded employment lawyer who enjoys solving complex problems and influencing outcomes. You'll bring:

  • A degree in Law and substantial experience in employment law (private practice experience highly regarded)
  • Demonstrated experience applying legal knowledge in practical ER decision‑making
  • Deep knowledge of the Australian ER framework, including the Fair Work Act, equal opportunity and discrimination laws, and employment contracts
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • A genuine interest in coaching and developing others
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills, including with senior leaders and union representatives

How we’ll deliver for you

  • The opportunity to work at enterprise scale, where your decisions have real impact
  • A role focused on judgement, influence and capability uplift, not just case throughput
  • Exposure to some of the most complex ER matters in the Australian employment landscape
  • A supportive, values‑led culture that lives Trust, Inclusivity, Empowerment and Safety (TIES)
  • Ongoing learning through the AP Way, building understanding of how ER supports our strategy and purpos
