What you’ll deliver with us

Based in the Research and Service Design team, our purpose is to deeply understand people to inform and help the design of accessible, sustainable and seamless products, services and experiences for Australia Post customers. Working closely with engineering, product and program teams we bring the human insights to all we do, envisioning how our users experience our products and services.


The Senior Design Researcher works with the Lead Design Researcher in driving understanding and empathy around user needs, stated and unstated, for projects and program teams. To do this, you’ll be required to provide strong leadership around Design Research methodologies and challenge your extensive research toolkit to conduct primary research, exploring the behaviours and motivations of our users through all types of qual and quant methodologies.


You’ll also   

  • Drive and manage research activities for our partners in product, platform and enterprise, including research planning, research roadmap, methodology and recruitment process for assigned projects.
  • Provide research leadership and influence to ensure the customer is represented when balancing experience (desirable), business (viable), and engineering (feasible) needs within a project.
  • Drive the delivery of user experience research methodologies and synthesis.
  • Contribute to research strategy, planning and vision to drive continuous improvement.
  • Advocate and apply UX success metrics, both quantitative and qualitative
  • Work closely with data and analytics team to identify opportunities.
  • Effectively influence and communicate research findings both verbally and visually to different audiences.
  • Be a champion for and uphold research craft standards and continually strive to exceed customer expectations.
  • Actively contribute to weekly team ceremonies, meetings and presentations on research
  • Push creativity, challenge established thinking and processes, and discover new ways of approaching (and solving) a problem. 


You’ll need   

  • At least 4+ years’ experience in a related role with demonstrable portfolio of work.
  • Background on design thinking methodologies, including facilitating workshops with stakeholders and/or customers and using various ideation techniques.
  • Applied experience: moderated and unmoderated testing remote testing, a range of fidelity prototype testing, concept testing, contextual inquiry, survey design, competitive and comparative analysis, and other research methods across variety of devices.
  • Experience in understanding customer needs, motivations and behaviours and translating them into insights and opportunities.
  • Good attention to detail and highly developed organisational skills including the ability to prioritise tasks and meet ambitious deadlines while maintaining high quality craft execution.
  • Understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
  • An understanding of the digital development process and software development methodologies, including Agile and Lean.
  • A grasp of quantitative data analysis and statistics.
  • Analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
  • Empathy for the customer with the enthusiasm to create progressive experiences.
