Description & Requirements

Help us deliver like never before

We’re looking for a Senior Design Researcher to join our diverse, talented and innovative digital technology team who together are helping our customers and communities build a better future. Together, we design, build and maintain products, services and experiences that Australian's love and trust, while delivering a sustainable future for Australia Post, and you could be part of that.

We're empowered to deliver for our teams and to delight our customers. We provide an inclusive and supportive environment that nurtures talented people, trusts our teams to deliver their best, and leverages modern work practices and technologies. It's an unexpectedly dynamic and collaborative culture that feels more like a start-up than a 213-year old icon.

About the opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to work with the Research team to establish our new way of working in Australia Post - this includes new research models and frameworks, and new tools.

Senior Design Researchers in our team are responsible for:

  • Running generative and evaluative research projects end-to-end both independently or in collaboration with multiple researchers.
  • Creating and fostering relationships with stakeholders across the business (our researchers work across a range of products and teams).
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of our research operations.
  • Supporting and training our product and content designers to conduct unmoderated usability testing.
  • Ability to measure and communicate research value and impact.
  • Clearly communicate and report user problems and user needs in a way that easily translates insights into actionable solutions.

About the team

The Research and Service Design team sits within the Centre of Excellence, Research and Design at Australia Post.

Our research team supports informed decision-making and mitigates risk across product development and strategic decision making by deeply understanding our users’ needs and behaviours.

Through strategic discovery research, continuous testing with customers and partners, and by keeping a close eye on feedback in live products and features, we understand the people who use our products and help to ensure you're solving the right problems with products that meet real needs.

Our research team conducts qualitative and quantitative research to inform design decisions, product strategies, and identify opportunities. We actively work with our partners across the business, from design and product to engineering, to push our insights beyond research reports, and ensure they are actively contributing to decision-making.

We are diverse, collaborative, and supportive - together we learn about our craft, grow our skillsets, and enjoy a morning coffee. We all have unique strengths and interests that we foster and share amongst ourselves to continue to grow our craft and strength as a team.

About you

  • At least 4 years’ experience in a related role.
  • Background in design thinking methodologies - such as facilitating workshops with stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with team members across the business from product to engineering and bringing them along on the research journey.
  • Applied experience with in-person and remote interviews, moderated usability testing, contextual inquiry, diary study, data analysis, survey design and analysis (experience with UserTesting is desirable but not essential).
  • Knowledge and experience working with Design Research tools like AirTable, User Testing, Askable.
  • Understanding of strengths and shortcomings of different research methods, including when and how to apply them during each product phase.
  • An understanding of the digital development process and software development methodologies, including Agile and Lean.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, learning, and development.

Needless to say, you will have exceptional analytical, conceptual, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. You have proven experience managing ambiguity, work autonomously but collaboratively, and multi-task in an agile environment.

One last thing
Research shows that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for roles if they don't meet every qualification. If after reading this, you’re not sure you tick every single criteria box, but have the passion to get behind our purpose, the determination to face a challenge and a willingness to grow and learn, we think you should click that apply button anyway. We're passionate about building a diverse and inclusive team, and love hearing from people like you.
