About the opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Government Affairs, you are responsible for building and executing strategic government engagement as Australia Post embarks on significant change, while also playing a key role in building relationships across all levels of government and contributing directly to the organisation's ability to operate, transform, and grow.
What you’ll deliver with us
Contribute to Australia Post's commitment to the communities it serves by ensuring government engagement reflects the needs and expectations of customers and communities across metro, regional and remote Australia.
You will also build and maintain trusted, productive relationships with government stakeholders—including Ministers, Ministerial Advisers, Members of Parliament to support Australia Post's reputation as a reliable and essential community service.

- Develop and execute government stakeholder engagement plans that advance Australia Post's strategic priorities, ensuring engagement activities are purposeful, well‑timed, and aligned with organisational objectives
- Proactively and reactively engage with Federal, State and Territory Government stakeholders in support of Australia Post’s strategic aims
- Monitor and analyse the political and policy environment across federal, state and local government, translating insights into actionable intelligence that supports informed decision‑making by senior leaders
- Work collaboratively across the business and within the Government Affairs team to ensure access to, and application of, government insights to inform communications and engagement activity
- Support the delivery of advocacy strategies that effectively position Australia Post's commercial and community interests, contributing to improved policy and regulatory outcomes
- Identify opportunities to improve government engagement processes, tools, and ways of working, including the adoption of digital and data‑driven approaches to stakeholder management and parliamentary monitoring
About you
- 5+ years’ experience in Government Relations, Corporate Affairs, Public Policy, or a similar advisory role, with a proven track record of engaging government stakeholders
- Experience navigating complex policy and regulatory issues, including preparing high‑quality briefings, submissions and senior communications
- Proven ability to build and sustain productive relationships with senior government stakeholders, including ministerial offices, parliamentarians, and senior public servants, exercising sound political judgement and discretion.
- Strong ability to operate effectively in complex environments, to design and deliver stakeholder engagement plans that achieve measurable outcomes
- Established capability to build and maintain trusted relationships with senior government stakeholders, exercising sound political judgement and discretion
- Skilled at working across multidisciplinary teams, influencing and aligning internal stakeholders to deliver coordinated advice and advocacy
- Proven experience managing competing stakeholder expectations in highly regulated, politically sensitive environments
