Help us deliver a better tomorrow
Australia Post is delivering for all Australians. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and for our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.
About the opportunity
Australia Post is seeking an experienced Senior Safety Specialist to partner with leaders across our Deliveries business and drive meaningful, sustainable improvements in safety, wellbeing and performance.
In this senior advisory role, you’ll influence outcomes through strong stakeholder relationships, trust-building and practical coaching. You’ll empower operational leaders to take ownership of safety and translate strategy into action by leading complex safety initiatives, investigations and improvement programs within a large, unionised environment.
What you’ll deliver with us
- Build trusted partnerships with operational leaders to support safety initiatives, projects and improvement plans.
- Provide expert, pragmatic safety advice that balances legislative obligations with operational needs.
- Coach leaders to strengthen safety capability, culture and risk awareness.
- Lead and support complex incident investigations, ensuring high-quality analysis and effective corrective actions.
- Drive safety projects from planning to implementation with measurable outcomes.
- Analyse data to identify systemic risks and translate insights into targeted interventions.
- Support managers with investigations and ensure compliance with policies and escalation requirements.
- Engage confidently with unions, HSRs and regulators to improve safety outcomes.
- Partner with Enterprise Safety, Customer Excellence and external providers to deliver consistent safety programs.
About you
You’re a self‑starter who brings strong technical safety expertise alongside excellent stakeholder management and coaching capability. You are confident working autonomously, managing competing priorities and constructively challenging practices that don’t align with safety strategy.
You will also have
- 5–7 years’ experience in a senior safety role within a large, complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience working in a highly unionised environment.
- Strong investigation capability, including experience with complex incidents.
- Proven ability to influence through trust, credibility and strong working relationships.
- Experience delivering safety initiatives from concept to implementation.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation and its practical application, including Chain of Responsibility.
- Ability to communicate complex safety concepts simply and effectively.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Tertiary qualification in WHS (Diploma or above) and a current driver’s licence.
Desirable
- Lead Auditor qualification
- ICAM or equivalent investigation competency
- Certificate IV Training & Assessment
- Experience supporting rehabilitation and return‑to‑work programs
