Help us deliver like never before
Australia Post is delivering like never before. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.

About the opportunity
As an Operations Lead, at our Dandenong Letter Centre, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day, end-to-end operations of your designated shift to ensure efficient, safe and high-performing facility outcomes. As a key member of the facility leadership team, you will actively contribute to planning discussions, execution of strategic initiatives and ongoing efforts to drive continuous improvement across the site.

We are currently recruiting for two positions; an AM Shift Operations Lead and a PM Shift Operations Lead. Please consider your preferred shift and indicate it clearly in your cover letter.

In this role, you will oversee the effective execution of labour plans, ensuring labour utilisation aligns with service requirements and budget expectations. You will also be accountable for maintaining a safe working environment, supporting a strong team culture and enabling the facility to meet service performance standards consistently.

What you’ll deliver with us

In this role, you’ll support high-performance shift operations by overseeing daily processing activities, driving safety and service excellence, managing labour and cost performance, and contributing to continuous improvement across the facility. You will deliver this through:

  • Effective supervision of shift operations to meet performance targets, including DIFOT, quality control, workload planning, adherence to production plans and accurate reporting across all shift activities.
  • Data-informed decision making by assessing production capacity, analysing performance metrics with the Shift Production Manager, implementing contingency plans and championing Lean standards across the site.
  • Ownership of shift financial performance, managing labour and non-labour costs to budget, reviewing productivity outcomes and supporting improved Cost to Serve results.
  • Strong customer and community focus by upholding One Team behaviours, ensuring service commitments are met and identifying continuous improvement opportunities across operational processes.
  • Proactive leadership of people and safety, including compliance with Safe Operating Procedures, conducting investigations, supporting return-to-work programs and fostering a culture where safety conversations and hazard elimination are prioritised.
  • Empowering your team through clear expectations, coaching, mentoring, development support, effective communication rhythms and timely resolution of workplace issues to drive a positive, high-performance culture.

About you

You’re an experienced operational leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume environments and has the confidence, capability and people leadership skills to guide large teams through daily operational demands. You build strong relationships, solve problems quickly, communicate with influence and bring a safety-first mindset to every shift. You will bring:

  • Proven supervisory or management experience leading large teams in a complex operational or production environment, including improving shift performance, resolving IR issues and managing workplace conflict.
  • Strong capability in coaching, mentoring and developing high-performing teams, supported by effective relationship-building across all levels, peers and support functions.
  • Sound knowledge of production and operational management techniques, KPI-driven performance, financial principles and an ability to make informed, timely decisions that drive operational outcomes.
  • Understanding of HR, safety and industrial relations requirements, along with experience navigating union engagement, regulatory expectations and customer/community considerations.
  • Familiarity with Australia Post’s operational environment, processing operations, parcels, mail, transport, delivery integration, relevant policies and Enterprise Agreements.
