About the opportunity  

We have an opportunity available for an experienced commercial lawyer to join our legal team based in Melbourne. Your role will be as a trusted advisor and partner to Australia Post and its subsidiary companies. You will be joining a collaborative and high performing in-house legal team.  You will contribute towards our commercial success through the provision of legal services on a diverse range of projects and matters.


What does the role involve

Reporting to the ‘Head of Legal’, you will be responsible for managing and influencing stakeholders on a range of matters. As a trusted advisor for the Finance & Technology business units you will have:

  • Strong experience negotiating information technology agreements, including SAAS contracts, software licences, hardware sale agreements and support & maintenance agreements
  • Strong experience advising on regulatory matters, including privacy, data protection and cyber-security issues
  • Great problem-solving skills and the ability to generate commercial solutions to assist in the success of key business initiatives and issues
  • A proven record of general commercial contract drafting and negotiating contracts that achieve business objectives and being able to allocate risk in accordance with risk appetite
  • Experience in, or exposure to, corporate advisory matters is preferable.
  • Provide pragmatic legal support your stakeholders to manage their legal obligations in accordance with Australia Post’s risk appetite and regulatory framework
  • Assist the enterprise to meet its strategic objectives and priorities.
  • Provide independent, strategically focused legal advice that adds value for Australia Post
  • Be a team player, support your peers and promote the value and reputation of Group Legal
  • Be aware of emerging trends and new legislation, and be able to incorporate these changes into your legal advice
  • Advocate for strong corporate ethics and governance

 

You’ll also   

  • Be a team player, support your peers, and promote the value and reputation of Group Legal
  • Develop and maintain standard form legal documentation, resources, and toolkits
  • Support the development of internal policies, training, and compliance programs aimed at the business  
  • Optimise the value and quality of legal services from external legal resources
  • Assist in training the business to understand their legal rights and compliance obligations
     

What are we looking for?

  • You will have at least 5 years post admission experience, having worked at a top tier firm, or demonstrated in-house experience
  • You will hold an unrestricted Australian practicing certificate
  • You will have strong experience in procurement and general commercial contract law
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills
  • The ability to build strong relationships and effectively influence internal and external stakeholders
  • A proactive lawyer with a positive attitude
