What does the role involve? 

 
The Head of Health, Safety and Wellbeing leads a team of Safety Specialists who look after the safety functional activities across a geographical region within Network Operations. Reporting to the General Manager (GM) Health, Safety & Wellbeing, this role will be responsible for safety across processing, first and last mile and transport in NSW, ACT, QLD across multiple Business Units. 

 

You are a key member of the Northern Region leadership team, you will work closely with your counterparts in other regions, as well as Enterprise Safety and the Safety Program Manager to execute on the safety strategy. You will be responsible for driving safety engagement, creating a consistent approach to implementing initiatives across the region and continued improvement of outcomes and ways of working. 

 

You will constructively challenge decisions that don’t align to the safety strategic direction and motivate the team to look beyond implementation of administrative controls to address identified exposure. Building strong, influential stakeholder relationships will be critical, allowing you to draw on the expertise of the wider Safety community, including Enterprise Safety, Operations Excellence team and relevant external providers. 

 

Key role responsibilities:  

  • Build and maintain a trusted relationships with operational leaders nationally to drive the implementation of agreed safety initiatives and strategies
  • Provide expert and relevant safety advice and support on strategies to embed safety leadership, initiatives, culture and improved standards in the workplace
  • Provide insight and analysis on safety data and metrics for the region and use it to identify and drive improvements and consistency across the network through the Safety Specialists, covering communication, education and intervention
  • Manage, coach and develop the team of Safety Specialists to execute the Enterprise Safety strategy within the region
  • Lead injury reduction improvement programs within the region, monitoring and reporting on incident investigations ensuring a consistent approach is applied across the region 
  • Design bespoke safety initiatives/interventions when required to generate improved safety outcomes across the region
  • Educate and coach leadership teams about the Safety strategy and work plan to ensure there is appropriate commitment and support to enable its execution in a consistent manner

 

What experience will you have? 

  • Significant leadership experience within large complex operational environments, including building and leading high-performance teams
  • Extensive experience in safety leadership and understanding of the safety risks and exposures within large-scale logistics, transport, supply chain, mining, construction, manufacturing or airline operations 
  • Expert-level knowledge within Safety Management, including interpretation of safety legislation, policies and procedures and OH&S qualified
  • Proven track record of influencing senior leadership team to achieve safety outcomes, including challenging ways of working
  • Prior experience delivering on safety initiatives that have real impact and driving consistency and alignment across multiple locations with differing cultures and legacy
  • Bachelor's degree minimum in Logistics, Supply Chain, Commerce or a relevant field. Postgraduate qualifications would be highly regarded however not essential
