About the opportunity 

The Head of Government Affairs is responsible for leading the proactive and reactive federal, state and local government engagement in support of Australia Post’s strategic growth initiatives, including a strong focus on internal and external advisory and advocacy. This role is open to locations nationally.

What you’ll deliver with us 

A primary focus is to support the creation of a cohesive government engagement strategy that advances the organisation’s Post26, Post30, and modernisation goals, while safeguarding and strengthening Australia Post’s reputation and social licence to operate.

This role collaborates closely with leaders from the Community, Sustainability, and Stakeholder Engagement teams, as well as subject matter experts across Australia Post, to drive stakeholder and industry engagement efforts, including policy advocacy and advisory responsibilities as needed.

You’ll also  

  • Guide the Government Affairs team in engaging proactively and reactively with federal, state, and local government stakeholders to support Australia Post’s strategic goals.
  • Manage Australia Post’s interactions with Shareholder Ministers and their offices.
  • Lead engagement efforts with Shareholder Ministers, Ministers, Shadow Ministers, MPs, Senators, Advisers, and Departments to advance Australia Post’s strategic objectives.
  • Assist in preparing business representatives for Senate Estimates hearings and other Parliamentary Inquiries.
  • Develop and execute strategic Parliamentary engagement plans, including programs, briefs, and materials for the CEO and senior executives.
  • Monitor Parliamentary issues related to Australia Post to identify risks and opportunities, and respond as needed.
  • Oversee the constituent correspondence team to handle enquiries efficiently.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of Industry, Policy and Regulatory Affairs to advocate for policy goals and influence government at all levels.
  • Partner with the Head of Industry, Policy and Regulatory Affairs to proactively identify cross-industry opportunities for Australia Post.


About you 

  • Significant experience in Government Relations / Ministerial adviser / political office / industry association / think tank.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and interest in political and regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing clear communications materials.
  • Ability to communicate complex information simply to a wide range of audiences.
  • An ability to juggle competing demands and priorities; and balance strategic and tactical priorities to deliver outcomes.
  • Proven ability to mediate across multi-functional or multi-discipline teams in order to achieve agreed objectives.
