Help us deliver like never before
Australia Post is delivering like never before. From the vehicles that we drive, to the small businesses that make our communities thrive. We’re delivering for the environment, for our communities, for our customers and our people. We’re moving forward and we want you to come along for the ride.
About the opportunity
As our Engineering Operations Manager, you’ll play a pivotal people leadership role, ensuring our facilities operate safely, efficiently, and reliably, and that our teams feel supported, engaged, and set up for success.
You’ll lead and develop a diverse team of leaders and specialists across multiple facilities, fostering a strong culture of safety, trust, and accountability. Your focus will be on enabling people performance by setting clear expectations, building capability, and empowering Shift Leads and teams to make confident decisions in a fast-paced operational environment.
Working in close partnership with operational and planning leaders, you’ll provide direction, prioritisation, and leadership oversight to maintenance and improvement activities. You’ll help connect people to purpose, align effort to outcomes, and ensure the right focus is maintained to support network performance.
This is a highly visible leadership role where adaptability, presence, and connection matter. You’ll travel between sites, and engage with teams across the state, responding to today’s challenges while developing strong leaders and a resilient workforce for the future.
What you’ll deliver with us
In this role, you’ll lead a high-performing, people-focused team that keeps our automation network moving safely, reliably, and sustainably. Your success will be measured not only by operational outcomes, but by the strength, engagement, and capability of your team.
You’ll:
- Lead with purpose by role-modelling a strong safety and wellbeing culture, while coaching, mentoring, and developing leaders to build confidence, capability, and accountability.
- Enable operational performance by providing leadership oversight of maintenance activities across Victoria’s processing facilities, ensuring priorities are clear and teams are supported to meet performance expectations.
- Build leadership capability by supporting Shift Leads and emerging leaders with structured development, clear direction, and regular feedback.
- Champion continuous improvement by encouraging collaborative problem-solving, learning, and innovation, working alongside planning and operational teams to improve ways of working.
- Strengthen relationships by building trusted partnerships with internal stakeholders, promoting a One Team mindset and aligning technical support to broader business outcomes.
- Lead through change by guiding your teams through operational and organisational change with clarity, empathy, and strong communication.
In this role, success isn’t just what gets delivered, it’s how you lead, influence, and bring people with you.
About you
You’re a confident, authentic people leader who knows how to create clarity, build trust, and get the best from diverse teams. You thrive in complex operational environments and understand that strong performance comes from engaged people, clear processes, and consistent leadership.
You have enough technical or maintenance experience to ask the right questions and make informed decisions, but your real strength lies in leading through others. You’re visible, approachable, and comfortable balancing operational priorities with people needs.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience leading and developing teams in an automated operational or technical environment within manufacturing, processing or warehousing distribution.
- Strong people leadership capability, including coaching, performance management, and building accountable teams.
- Experience partnering with operational leaders to deliver business outcomes and achieve KPIs.
- Demonstrated experience managing Industrial Relations matters and supporting operational strategy and implementation.
- Working knowledge of maintenance principles, asset management, and continuous improvement frameworks.
- Experience leading teams through change while maintaining engagement, safety, and inclusion.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across levels.
- Highly desirable: a Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Business Management, or Industrial Relations, or progression toward completion.
