About the opportunity  

As an officer of the Court, you’ll be required to adhere to legal and professional ethical obligations in carrying out the role’s legal advisory functions. Your success is dependent on using your problem solving skills and legal judgment, with a strong understanding of our clients, as well as the external commercial, legal and regulatory environment. You’ll think commercially and strategically and generate solutions to assist your internal clients’ initiatives to move forward successfully.


What you’ll deliver with us   

Reporting to the Head of Legal (‘People & Culture – P&C’, ‘Network Operations’, ‘Community, Sustainability, & Stakeholder Engagement - CS&SE’), you will be responsible for: -

  • Safety related matters: advising on safety compliance, supporting business unit response to safety incidents, advising on workplace safety investigations, advising on Australia Post’s response to regulatory investigations and prosecutions, providing advice to the senior leadership team to identify and manage health and safety risks and meet their compliance and safety goals 
  • Employment related matters: performance management, termination of employment, managing ill and injured employees, workplace investigations, interpretation of internal policies/procedures, and interpretation of recent legislative amendments
  • Discrimination law matters: managing complaints, conciliations and litigation related to job applicants, employees, customers and the public
  • Safety and employment law related issues arising in connection with Australia Post’s extended workforce, including licensees and contractors
  • Safety, employment, and discrimination related litigation in a range of jurisdictions (FWC; Magistrates Court; Supreme Courts and Federal Court)
  • Safety and employment law advice on Australia Post’s strategic projects
  • Management and advice on third-party personal injury and workers compensation recovery claims
  • Other commercial and ad hoc legal advice as and when required


About you  

  • You will have at least 5 years post-admission experience in the relevant space 
  • Broad experience across safety, employment, workplace, industrial relations, and discrimination legal practice
  • Worked in-house and/or private practice specialising in safety and employment law
