What you’ll deliver with us
The Data Steward Lead is responsible for enabling and empowering the federated data steward community to efficiently meet their responsibilities for data governance and data quality uplift, helping unlock business value from trusted data across the organisation. This role is instrumental in establishing and operating a strong, connected Data Stewardship Community of Practice, nurturing a culture of governance and accountability across the enterprise. It provides leadership, standardised practices, enabling technology, and targeted support that simplifies stewardship responsibilities and accelerates the adoption of enterprise data governance.
Acting as both a strategic advisor and service designer, the Data Steward Lead ensures that stewards across domains are equipped, confident, and capable of driving data quality and governance practices that deliver value to business teams quickly and sustainably. Process design and continuous improvement is a key aspect to this role as you will lead the development of repeatable, scalable stewardship workflows and quality management processes. This includes monitoring performance and feedback to continuously refine support offerings and steward experience.
You’ll also
- Establish, lead, and grow an enterprise-wide Data Stewardship Community of Practice.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and peer-learning opportunities for Stewards to uplift capability and confidence.
- Design and evolve support models, toolsets, and advisory services that empower Stewards to efficiently perform their roles.
- Drive the adoption and effective use of enabling technologies (e.g. Collibra) and scalable standards.
- Operationalise self-service approaches that reduce overhead and increase steward autonomy.
- Align stewardship priorities with enterprise data strategy, business goals, and regulatory expectations.
- Define scalable service delivery and engagement models that accelerate time-to-value from trusted data.
About you
We are seeking someone with strong communication skills who can with Data Stewards, Data Owners, IT, business units, data teams and enabling functions (e.g. Risk, Legal). Extneraly you will be working with vendors and consultants to evolve support strategies. This role requires someone to have the ability to influence business and technical stakeholders at all levels. Of course, understanding of data governance platforms, frameworks, regulatory drivers, stewardship practices, tools, and frameworks are all useful too!
You’ll also need
- Background in education, consulting, data governance, training/coordination, or enablement roles. Team leadership experience is key.
- Experience running a strategic program to uplift level of knowledge within an organisation is highly regarded
- Knowledge of data governance, information management or data enablement is advantageous
- Ability to lead enterprise-wide stewardship or data enablement initiatives.
- Understanding of data governance tools such as Collibra or Informatica
- Excellent facilitation, training, communication and influencing skills
- Proven ability to drive governance capability uplift, literacy, and sustainable service models at scale
- Familiarity with enterprise data cataloguing, lineage, data modelling, quality management, cloud architecture practices are all useful but not a dealbreaker
