About the opportunity

Reporting into our Head of Information and Data Compliance, you will join a passionate, committed and supportive team in a unique role that has an important impact on our Country and preserving history. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Archivist (Collections Officer) to join one of Australia’s top employers in an instrumental role that supports the collection development and research for the ongoing management of Australia Post's historical assets.

What you’ll deliver with us

Acting as an independent adviser and subject matter expert, the Archivist (Collections Officer) will collaborate with business units and stakeholders to provide value-add insight and advice that is relevant, commercial, and strategically oriented to assist Australia Post in managing its compliance obligations in relation to our historical assets.

You’ll also

  • You will assemble, preserve, catalogue, and ensure our historical information is managed in accordance with the Archives Act.
  • Oversee the cataloguing and archiving of Philatelic material including UPU Collection held at Sprintpak.
  • Analyse materials such as stamp sheets with supporting materials, stamp collections, maps, films, documents, and paintings, checking their authenticity, physical condition, and historical content.
  • Ensure metadata related to the collection is documented and maintained on Grace databases including but not limited to indexes, descriptions, photographs of current condition and accompanying research.
  • Provide support to the Head of Information and Data Compliance to complete National Archives Transfer Proposals and Approvals.
  • Ensure proper preservation of the collection through the transfer of items to either the National Archives or appropriate conditions at Secondary Storage.

About you

We are seeking a motivated individual who has had exposure to Archiving, Records management or Libarian experience over the course of their career and a drive to meet targets and deadlines.

You’ll also need

  • Knowledge of proper preservation processes of collections through the transfer of items to either the National Archives or appropriate conditions at Secondary Storage.
  • A tertiary Qualification in Information Management, Arts History or similar.
  • An ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
  • The ability to build strong relationships across People and Culture to align business solutions to the People and Culture strategy.
  • A strong understanding of records management.

How we’ll deliver for you

  • Be part of a culture where everybody feels they belong, are valued, and can bring their authentic self to work every day
  • We deliver on our values of Trust, Inclusivity, Empowerment and Safety every day. They’re the TIES that bind our team together
  • Flexible working, across head office and facilities across the network
